QueenSidhe (7:14:39 PM): Hi all.
KWM01 (7:14:42 PM): hi vickie
QueenSidhe (7:14:44 PM): Slow comp. :-)
Z0rPr1me (7:14:55 PM): hey vickie
QueenSidhe (7:15:04 PM): So how is everyone?
KWM01 (7:15:09 PM): cool
Z0rPr1me (7:15:11 PM): good, you?
QueenSidhe (7:15:22 PM): Pretty good.
QueenSidhe (7:15:27 PM): Work picking up again.
Z0rPr1me (7:15:31 PM): actually tired :-) got tons of works... which is boring
QueenSidhe (7:15:40 PM): So we're probably not going to be meeting in June.
QueenSidhe (7:15:44 PM): :-(
Z0rPr1me (7:15:49 PM): doh
Z0rPr1me (7:15:54 PM): ::cries::
QueenSidhe (7:15:59 PM): Well, maybe for an open chat.
QueenSidhe (7:16:04 PM): But I might be late, depending.
Z0rPr1me (7:16:15 PM): i need my dose of sci-fi chat!!
KWM01 (7:16:22 PM): :-)
QueenSidhe (7:16:24 PM): Besides, gotta give you guys time to find the books! :-)
QueenSidhe (7:16:34 PM): And we haven't had nominations yet.
Z0rPr1me (7:16:34 PM): Ah!
KWM01 (7:16:44 PM): who me?:-)
Z0rPr1me (7:16:57 PM): Well thats because I've gone to the dark side.
QueenSidhe (7:17:09 PM): lol
Z0rPr1me (7:17:09 PM): currently hooked on cop books
Z0rPr1me (7:17:25 PM): Somebody help me!!!! :-)
QueenSidhe (7:17:48 PM): We'll cuff you to the group reads instead.
Z0rPr1me (7:17:57 PM): hehe
Z0rPr1me (7:18:30 PM): btw thanks again for the ebook. :-) both of ya! hehe
KWM01 (7:18:38 PM): :-)
KWM01 (7:19:06 PM): great mind think alike
QueenSidhe (7:19:09 PM): lol
Z0rPr1me (7:19:11 PM): hehe
QueenSidhe (7:19:21 PM): Did you get all the different versions available. lol
Z0rPr1me (7:19:31 PM): rtf, html and lit.
QueenSidhe (7:19:38 PM): lol!
QueenSidhe (7:19:39 PM): Nice.
Z0rPr1me (7:19:45 PM): I should have asked for the palm version :-)
QueenSidhe (7:19:55 PM): :-)
KWM01 (7:19:56 PM): :-)
Z0rPr1me (7:20:01 PM): but I made myself a copy for my palm heh and read on the puter here
QueenSidhe (7:20:04 PM): Did you have enough time to finish?
Z0rPr1me (7:20:11 PM): :-( Nope
QueenSidhe (7:20:16 PM): How far did you get?
Z0rPr1me (7:20:17 PM): chapter 34
Z0rPr1me (7:20:24 PM): but i dont care for spoilers
QueenSidhe (7:20:37 PM): Let's see. brb
Z0rPr1me (7:20:38 PM): I'll prolly finish it this weekend. its a 3 day weekend so....
Z0rPr1me (7:21:07 PM): and the weather looks to be aweful so... I'll read or go watch SW Episode II
KWM01 (7:21:34 PM): too much trouble waiting in line
QueenSidhe (7:21:37 PM): You still have about 20 or so chapters to go.
Z0rPr1me (7:21:39 PM): hehe
Z0rPr1me (7:21:56 PM): the fighting are just starting
QueenSidhe (7:21:58 PM): Heh. I still haven't seen Ep. 1
KWM01 (7:22:14 PM): you didn't miss much
Z0rPr1me (7:22:15 PM): no loss for you. Ep. 1 was.... so-so
QueenSidhe (7:23:15 PM): I'm not a star wars fan anyway.
QueenSidhe (7:23:32 PM): Star Trek though... :-)
Z0rPr1me (7:23:44 PM): btw in the first ambush, roger was hilarious. At one point in the fight Pahner is going crazy cuz roger is at the front
QueenSidhe (7:23:50 PM): So, what did you guys think of the book up until chapter 34?
QueenSidhe (7:24:13 PM): lol. Oh yes. When Roger gets that grenade launcher?
Z0rPr1me (7:24:19 PM): Roger is thinking: I really have to have a talk with pahner about how I keep ending up on my own
Z0rPr1me (7:24:24 PM): LOL...
KWM01 (7:24:26 PM): :-)
Z0rPr1me (7:24:34 PM): then Roger get the grenade
QueenSidhe (7:24:38 PM): And he STILL doesn't know how to use his communications equipment
Z0rPr1me (7:24:39 PM): and pahner says WTF
Z0rPr1me (7:24:44 PM): LOL
Z0rPr1me (7:24:52 PM): gotta love him
QueenSidhe (7:25:07 PM): He's an in the middle of the pile kind of guy. :-)
Z0rPr1me (7:25:13 PM): btw you can talk past chapter 34.
Z0rPr1me (7:25:21 PM): heh
Z0rPr1me (7:25:49 PM): Now it appears that he is starting to move is own stuff.
Z0rPr1me (7:26:04 PM): so he is growing up :-) and becoming a good person!
QueenSidhe (7:26:14 PM): Maybe. Although I think some of the bodyguards might have been carrying some of his bullets.
Z0rPr1me (7:26:27 PM): btw I would hate to be stuck on this planet. I hate heat and humidity!!!!
QueenSidhe (7:26:40 PM): You never really know for sure, since they don't explicitly say whatall he's taking with him besides clothes and bullets.
Z0rPr1me (7:26:48 PM): yea
QueenSidhe (7:26:48 PM): Yeah. Icky!!
KWM01 (7:27:11 PM): from the person who lives in L.A
QueenSidhe (7:27:12 PM): So were you able to remember any other scenes that shows Roger as a brat?
QueenSidhe (7:27:24 PM): LA isn't humid. It's hot and dry.
Z0rPr1me (7:27:29 PM): hehe
QueenSidhe (7:27:42 PM): It was really humid the one time I was in Barcelona. That was BAD.
QueenSidhe (7:28:12 PM): Hot isn't good, but I can live with it. Humidity on the other hand just sucks.
QueenSidhe (7:28:29 PM): You take a shower to cool off and when you get out of the shower, you're all hot and sticky again.
Z0rPr1me (7:28:39 PM): I dont remember more scene were Roger was a brat
Z0rPr1me (7:29:10 PM): oh
QueenSidhe (7:29:26 PM): Like I said in the threads, maybe I'm putting too much emphasis on how bratty Roger is supposed to be. Because except for those specific scenes, he didn't seem to be acting like a brat all the time.
QueenSidhe (7:29:42 PM): And for a royal pain in the neck, I'd expect to see him acting like a brat all the time.
Z0rPr1me (7:29:46 PM): another cool scene is when Roger say to Pahner that he is glad his mother isn't dealing with plots like the king is in
QueenSidhe (7:29:48 PM): Not just at certain times.
Z0rPr1me (7:29:56 PM): Pahner goes nutz on him... that was cool
KWM01 (7:30:10 PM): I think that its just the beginning of the book.
QueenSidhe (7:30:12 PM): Yeah. Naive of Roger.
Z0rPr1me (7:30:32 PM): Thats what I like about this book so far
KWM01 (7:30:34 PM): that he's a brat
QueenSidhe (7:30:35 PM): Another example of how everyone was keeping him out of the loop.
Z0rPr1me (7:30:52 PM): its how roger is developing. Start like a baby and seems to grow
Z0rPr1me (7:31:41 PM): It seems that the Marines are victims of their technology
KWM01 (7:32:04 PM): huh?
Z0rPr1me (7:32:04 PM): too confident in technology seems to start to break cuz of the humidity
QueenSidhe (7:32:05 PM): The main scenes we've said Roger was a brat was talking to his mother, the avoiding a mess dinner, getting everyone to call him Colonel, and getting everyone to carry his stuff.
QueenSidhe (7:32:07 PM): That's it, right?
Z0rPr1me (7:32:20 PM): right
KWM01 (7:32:45 PM): what about that dinner he was supposed to have
Z0rPr1me (7:32:59 PM): That plasma gun (or something else) that exploded in the hands of the marine was cool :-) in a way hehehe
KWM01 (7:33:05 PM): the one with the captian
QueenSidhe (7:33:28 PM): I think for me, when he was talking with his mother, he knew he was acting childish but the way his relationship with his mom devloped, there was no real way to change too much of that.
QueenSidhe (7:33:34 PM): He even knew he was acting like a baby.
Z0rPr1me (7:34:05 PM): he likes it cuz it seems to piss off his mother.
QueenSidhe (7:34:26 PM): A way to know his mother has his attention, probably.
QueenSidhe (7:34:39 PM): Like how some kids go out to do trouble.
Z0rPr1me (7:35:22 PM): yep
KWM01 (7:35:41 PM): any problem with the book?
QueenSidhe (7:36:26 PM): What kind of problem?
KWM01 (7:36:32 PM): sometime i found Poertena accent was hard to figure out
QueenSidhe (7:36:41 PM): No, I don't think so.
Z0rPr1me (7:36:50 PM): at first poertena was hard for me
QueenSidhe (7:36:53 PM): I pretty much liked all of it.
KWM01 (7:36:53 PM): brb
QueenSidhe (7:37:13 PM): I'm kind of used to reading different accents. Mostly Scottish.
Z0rPr1me (7:37:23 PM): but he was rarely there so... he isn't a problem so far
QueenSidhe (7:37:38 PM): He shows up a bit more later.
QueenSidhe (7:38:33 PM): So do you think you'd want to go on to the sequels, Zor?
Z0rPr1me (7:38:45 PM): so far, yes
Z0rPr1me (7:39:00 PM): but I have to finish the book to be sure :-)
QueenSidhe (7:39:01 PM): I'm looking forward to the time when the third book comes out.
Z0rPr1me (7:39:18 PM): the second book already out?
QueenSidhe (7:39:18 PM): We might even get Jim Baen to send som ARCs to LosCon and I might get a copy. :-)
Z0rPr1me (7:39:27 PM): cool
QueenSidhe (7:39:32 PM): Yes. In paperback soon probably.
QueenSidhe (7:39:35 PM): If not already.
Z0rPr1me (7:40:00 PM): but march upcountry was release in may in paperback right?
QueenSidhe (7:40:26 PM): In May? I don't know when it was released, but I know it's in paper already.
QueenSidhe (7:40:29 PM): Maybe Kelvin knows.
QueenSidhe (7:40:48 PM): Since I've stopped going to the Bar, I haven't been following Baen and publishing.
KWM01 (7:41:32 PM): back
QueenSidhe (7:41:34 PM): wb
Z0rPr1me (7:41:44 PM): march upcountry was released in paperback in may 2002 according to amazon.com
QueenSidhe (7:41:47 PM): Do you know when the paperback of March to the Sea is coming out?
Z0rPr1me (7:41:59 PM): second book is March to the sea?
QueenSidhe (7:42:02 PM): Yes.
QueenSidhe (7:42:21 PM): Maybe in August? I think that was around when it was released last year in hb.
KWM01 (7:42:23 PM): not sure but it usually about a year after the hardback
Z0rPr1me (7:42:40 PM): august was released of the second book in hardback
Z0rPr1me (7:42:45 PM): august 2001 that is
QueenSidhe (7:42:49 PM): You should be able to see it on the Baen publishing schedule too.
Z0rPr1me (7:43:05 PM): k
KWM01 (7:44:10 PM): I don't see it on the shedule but it's proably out by the end of the year
QueenSidhe (7:44:55 PM): Any news about new snippets for march to the stars, Kelvin?
QueenSidhe (7:45:22 PM): It's been like 3 months since Ringo has posted anything new.
KWM01 (7:45:38 PM): no, and I'm dying of curiousity
QueenSidhe (7:45:52 PM): Me too. I still want to see when they do that battle simulation.
QueenSidhe (7:46:03 PM): That one chapter was so hilarius. :-)
QueenSidhe (7:46:18 PM): I could just see Smaj yelling at Roger.
KWM01 (7:46:27 PM): ohhh my head:-)
QueenSidhe (7:46:30 PM): lol
QueenSidhe (7:46:59 PM): We really have to beg Jim to send Stars ARCs to LosCon. :-)
QueenSidhe (7:47:07 PM): Then you have to come down and visit to get a copy.
KWM01 (7:47:48 PM): Hell, I'd fly to the east coast for one
QueenSidhe (7:47:58 PM): :D
QueenSidhe (7:49:02 PM): I'll let you know if it comes.
KWM01 (7:49:12 PM): :-)
KWM01 (7:49:56 PM): you guys have any ideas on the next books to read?
QueenSidhe (7:50:19 PM): I wanted to read the novel nominations for the Hugo awards.
QueenSidhe (7:50:27 PM): So then we'd be able to vote on them.
QueenSidhe (7:50:41 PM): Or we could do all the shorts for on chat.
QueenSidhe (7:50:47 PM): one chat
Z0rPr1me (7:50:55 PM): fine by me
QueenSidhe (7:50:59 PM): If we can find copies of all the shorts
Z0rPr1me (7:51:18 PM): i strongly want to read 2000, 2001 and 2002 books.
Z0rPr1me (7:51:37 PM): my TBR is full of old stuff. stuff from the 80's
KWM01 (7:52:36 PM): it's weird but almost all the recent books that I like are by Baen.
QueenSidhe (7:52:56 PM): I've actually been having problems finding stuff I like.
QueenSidhe (7:54:01 PM): I picked up Grave Peril recently and couldn't really get into it.
QueenSidhe (7:54:07 PM): I ended up skimming the middle.
QueenSidhe (7:54:43 PM): Not really sure what's up with me. But I have been rereading those I'm sure I like.
QueenSidhe (7:54:55 PM): Mostly those from Baen that I can put on my iPAQ.
KWM01 (7:55:30 PM): Yeah, I've been get desprite for good books lately
QueenSidhe (7:55:47 PM): Maybe those Hugo nominees will help.
KWM01 (7:56:14 PM): I'm started to read 70's scifi
Z0rPr1me (7:57:04 PM): Anyone read those 2 free short stories I've post about in the forum ?
QueenSidhe (7:57:09 PM): Nope. not yet.
QueenSidhe (7:57:13 PM): Plan to though.
Z0rPr1me (7:57:17 PM): same here
Z0rPr1me (7:57:30 PM): next chat is trivia stuff?
KWM01 (7:57:31 PM): what short story?
QueenSidhe (7:57:36 PM): So what do you think? Try and go through all the Hugo nominees?
QueenSidhe (7:57:39 PM): Yup.
QueenSidhe (7:57:54 PM): I'll have 10 trivia questions for you. :-)
Z0rPr1me (7:58:00 PM): at fictionwise.com there is 2 free short stories that are nominated for the Hugo
Z0rPr1me (7:58:15 PM): Vickie, ok I'll study my books :-)
KWM01 (7:58:44 PM): sure vickie, Hugo nominees are fine
QueenSidhe (7:58:58 PM): I don't remember exactly all the questions I've come up with since I did them last year, but they shouldn't be too difficult. I'm sure some of the answers have been discussed somewhere on the board before.
QueenSidhe (7:59:10 PM): Will you be able to find the books, Zor?
Z0rPr1me (7:59:26 PM): I will order them from the states
Z0rPr1me (7:59:32 PM): I just hate hardback :-)
QueenSidhe (7:59:39 PM): Me too. They're too heavy.
QueenSidhe (7:59:46 PM): ANd hard to hold in one hand
QueenSidhe (8:00:04 PM): Plus I have to take off the cover jacket because they always slip around.
Z0rPr1me (8:00:04 PM): The paperback is the coolest invention since.... electricity IMO. ROFL
KWM01 (8:00:09 PM): I love hardback, just can't afford them
QueenSidhe (8:00:37 PM): So since we agree, I'll just call of the nominations. :-)
QueenSidhe (8:00:44 PM): I think we're the only active members anyway.
Z0rPr1me (8:00:49 PM): heh
Z0rPr1me (8:01:01 PM): where jeff and roy, guess we lost them
QueenSidhe (8:01:20 PM): Roy is probably busy with married life and his coming baby.
Z0rPr1me (8:01:32 PM): maybe 2 books a month is scarry for others.
QueenSidhe (8:01:45 PM): Jeff, I'm not sure. I think he still attends the Book Bunch meetings but might not be reading the books.
Z0rPr1me (8:02:10 PM): how many nomination for the hugo? 5-6?
QueenSidhe (8:02:16 PM): 6 I think
Z0rPr1me (8:02:55 PM): okies. just need to make time to read them then.
QueenSidhe (8:02:58 PM): Hmm. We're gonna have to hurry to get all the books in.
Z0rPr1me (8:03:10 PM): lets read hugos.... and see how crappy they are!!!!
QueenSidhe (8:03:11 PM): If there are 6, I guess we'll have to meet in June too.
QueenSidhe (8:03:15 PM): lol
KWM01 (8:03:31 PM): :-)
Z0rPr1me (8:03:41 PM): we can meet in July and do one chat per week?
Z0rPr1me (8:03:53 PM): if u need time to work that is
QueenSidhe (8:04:01 PM): lol. Do you really want to do that?
Z0rPr1me (8:04:05 PM): anyway, I'll start searching for the books :-)
Z0rPr1me (8:04:18 PM): I dont care... :-) I usually dont work at 10PM EST :-)
QueenSidhe (8:04:33 PM): lol
KWM01 (8:04:33 PM): :-)
QueenSidhe (8:04:44 PM): Well, June is when we try to finish alpha testing.
QueenSidhe (8:04:57 PM): So I'll probably be working late. Especially at the end of the month.
QueenSidhe (8:05:19 PM): I think we could get one book in at the beginning of June but not at the end.
Z0rPr1me (8:05:34 PM): well, we have a board so... we can decide on the board when the times comes
QueenSidhe (8:05:49 PM): yup.
KWM01 (8:05:49 PM): gotta go, dinner time
KWM01 (8:06:01 PM): nite guys
Z0rPr1me (8:06:02 PM): I'll shop this weekend... unless they are available in the warez world.
QueenSidhe (8:06:05 PM): Plus you'll have to let me know which books would come to you sonnest.
Z0rPr1me (8:06:07 PM): nite kelvin
QueenSidhe (8:06:09 PM): Night Kelvin!
(8:06:11 PM) KWM01 has left the room.
QueenSidhe (8:06:20 PM): soonest
Z0rPr1me (8:06:31 PM): Did you found some in electronic format?
QueenSidhe (8:06:33 PM): So we can read that one first.
QueenSidhe (8:06:48 PM): I havent looked. But I'll probably be looking for them in paper format
Z0rPr1me (8:06:55 PM): k
Z0rPr1me (8:07:15 PM): I'll see when i can get them and post in the forum
QueenSidhe (8:07:24 PM): Cool.
Z0rPr1me (8:07:40 PM): for sure I can have them in 3 weeks
Z0rPr1me (8:07:49 PM): but I'll post this weekend
QueenSidhe (8:07:53 PM): That should work. If you can read one in one week.
QueenSidhe (8:08:01 PM): Because the next chat would be 4 weeks away.
QueenSidhe (8:08:05 PM): from now
Z0rPr1me (8:08:07 PM): yep
Z0rPr1me (8:08:27 PM): depends on the workload... doesn't seem that bad in june
Z0rPr1me (8:08:35 PM): but we never know
QueenSidhe (8:08:38 PM): Cool.
Z0rPr1me (8:09:01 PM): anyway, I'll go sleep... little bit tired. Gnight! and cya on the board
QueenSidhe (8:09:05 PM): Night!
(8:09:08 PM) Z0rPr1me has left the room.
